The pulp and paper industries are a large and growing portion of the world’s economy. Pulp and paper production have increased globally and will continue to increase in the near future.

Paper and pulp industries consume huge amount of resources including water every year and create large amounts of solid wastes and waste water. Waste water needs to be treated properly prior to being discharged into the water course.

The applications within the pulp and paper industry are often very difficult due to erosive, corrosive and high cycle services. Some of the most demanding applications include medias such as calcium carbonate, lime, slurries and white-, green- and black liquor. These circumstances requires a careful valve selection with consideration to design features, abrasion resistance and wetted trim requirements.

In addition to valves used in the manufacturing process the identification of suitable valves to treat  waste products in an environmental-friendly way and to extract the energy from these wastes is essential.

Water forms a major element in the paper and pulp industry. After using the water for pulp and paper production, mills discharge the used water into the waterways as waste. The pulp and paper industry is faced with mounting environmental, political, and economic pressures to reduce the volume and toxicity of its industrial wastewater.
